Updated: Sep 20, 2018

The first course of action is to actually determine if your air conditioning unit is leaking water from possibly a clogged drain line or is it leaking water because your AC is Frozen !

Alot of our Pembroke Pines Customers that need AC Repair mistake a clogged drain line for an actual AC that is Freezing up.

So how do you determine ?

The first Step:

Split System Check:

Go to your indoor ac unit Air Handler and look for the copper piping that is coming out of it. There usually is Black insulation covering it. Follow it to the start of the copper piping from your Air Conditioner Air Handler and pull back the insulation slightly. There you will notice if there is ice on the pipe itself.

Another way of noticing if your AC is Freezing up is to remove the Filter from the Air Handler and look at the coil itself. You might have to stick your head underneath to look . This is a much more effective way of seeing whether it is Frozen or not.

Looking at the Condenser Unit Outside:

If you have access to your Outside AIr Conditioning Condenser Unit it make life alot easier you can go look inside it or look at the copper pipes much easier !

Freezing AC Units can be caused by several most common reasons:

  1. Indoor Motor is Not Functioing

  2. Lack of Freon - Possible Leak

Frozen AC Unit

  1. Dirty Evaporator Coil

  2. Dirty Filter - Check your Filter if it is Completely Clogged, Remove it and watch to see if your AC Unit is still freezing.

Step Two:

If you determine that there is Ice on the AC and it is not a Dirty Filter Issue, turn your indoor thermostat to the off position and the fan to the on position. This will help melt the Ice that is found in your AC System.
